In the era of climate change, the prospect is dim for many of the iconic wild creatures of the American West. Evolving over millennia under our same sun, many wild animals simply won’t be around for our grandchildren to grow up with. As a fisherman, bowhunter, nature lover and a dad, my own grief at the future West has led me back to the studio to explore the spiritual nature of wild animals and wilderness. Inspired by face-to-face encounters in wild places and the dreams that followed, my work is about the collective loss of wildness, nostalgia, and the residue left on the psyche by wild animal encounters. It is meant as a celebration of charismatic megafauna on the brink.
