As a Utah native, artist, painter and photographer, making pottery holds great personal joy! In clay there’s an endless variety of forms to create and ways to create them. After only making pottery for a fairly short time other than a couple of classes a long while ago, working in clay feels like hitting my artistic stride, and a world-view change. Even driving a highway with colorful scenery brings thoughts of what possible clays and glaze ingredients might be found nearby. A casual conversation about clay-digging as a child with an acquaintance led to research the location and properties of local clay, and ultimately to digging, processing, and using some that was hand-dug. Still at the beginning of this journey, as the potter’s wheel goes around repeatedly, imagining what comes next continues to revolve and evolve.
