Paul Redd-Butterfield

While I now live in a city, I was raised in the high deserts of Southeastern Utah surrounded by some of our planet’s most profoundly beautiful landscapes. Vast, wild and full of colorful contrasts, it is my deep, spiritual connection to this landscape that most inspires my work.

With my paintings, I interpret the wildness and vastness of this landscape and convey the feelings this creates in me through my palette, composition, texture and the processes I use.

As humans continue to migrate into a more urban lifestyle, I hope my work inspires the viewer to remember the sheer scale and magnitude of our natural world – to understand that it still exists and for now is accessible as a sanctuary from which we can derive great satisfaction, peace and a sense of connection to forces greater than ourselves or our urban lives.
